Understanding the New Primary Curriculum

Important changes to the Primary Curriculum, have been recently introduced with further developments planned over the coming years. To help parents and guardians understand what these changes mean for their child’s education, the Department has issued information for parents.

There are 5 areas in the New Primary Curriculum:

• Arts Education
• Languages
• Social and Environmental Education, including:
  • People, Place and Space
  • Environmental and Sustainable Living
  • Exploration of the World
• Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)
• Modern Foreign Language in the Primary Language Curriculum.
