Student Voice
In Scoil Mhuire we value what our pupils have to say. We welcome their ideas, opinions and contributions to everyday aspects of school life. It is important that they have a voice in their learning so they can be more invested in their education. We foster and encourage them as they move through the school so they develop a belief in themselves and their capabilities.
The Student Council has representatives from 1st to 6th class. They take on different projects during their year on the council. These reps bring up matters of interest from their classmates to the other reps for discussion at meetings. Over the years they’ve run competitions to promote awareness of important topics like Friendship Week. They’ve worked on planning and organising events like Well-being Week & Scoil Mhuire’s Got Talent.
This year they will be helping to teach their classmates some useful Lámh signs.
Watch this space to see what else they will work on over the year.
UDL (Universal Design for Learning) lends itself to facilitating the student voice by its emphasis on providing choice and options for one and all. See the UDL section for more details.
