School History

Scoil Mhuire National School, located on the historic Mount Sackville campus in Dublin, is a Catholic primary school with a rich and proud heritage. The school forms part of the wider Mount Sackville educational tradition established by the Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny, whose commitment to education and faith has shaped generations of young people.

The Mount Sackville story began in 1860 with the arrival of the French Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny in Dublin. This led to the foundation of Mount Sackville Secondary School in 1864 and the development of a vibrant educational community grounded in Christian values. Scoil Mhuire National School continues this legacy, sharing the historic grounds and embracing the same spirit of care, compassion, and respect for each individual.

Under the patronage of the Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny, the school remains inspired by the vision of their foundress, Blessed Anne Marie Javouhey. Her educational mission emphasised nurturing the whole child — academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally — within a caring Christian environment.

In keeping with its tradition of growth and inclusion, Scoil Mhuire National School has recently expanded its enrolment to welcome boys, enriching the school community while honouring its long history of educating girls.
